Skills for successful assessing
For when you need to help your assessors to do a great job
Your assessors have a number of key responsibilities to ensure that your assessment centre performs effectively and results in the right selection decisions:
- To conduct thorough and accurate assessments of candidates
- To avoid falling into common errors of assessment
- To treat all candidates fairly
- To communicate positive and realistic messages to candidates about the role
When assessment goes wrong – the importance of getting it right
The consequences of selecting the wrong person for a particular role can be far reaching for your organisation and the individual appointed.
- Poor performance impacts on business success
- Additional training to develop a candidate who lacks appropriate skills
- Personal stress for the individual and their colleagues and manager
- The individual becomes demotivated and could demotivate others
- Conducting a new recruitment campaign if the unsuited individual leaves or is asked to leave
Help your assessors to get it right
Our 1-2 day in-house assessor training course is designed to equip your delegates with a range of assessment skills and techniques. Your delegates develop and practise the skills of observation, recording, classification and evaluation using written and interactive assessment methods. These may include group discussions, role-play and negotiation exercises and, when appropriate, will include the exercises that are used within your own organisation. Your delegates will leave the course ready to implement these techniques effectively within your assessment centres. The course can also be delivered in conjunction with our interviewing masterclass course. Your delegates' learning from the course can be supported by our True Colours self-development modules to enhance the effectiveness of the intervention.
