Is innovation just a buzzword? Paiano's February post
26/02/2010, Author: Luigi Paiano

Hello all - welcome to the February blog
2010 will see many organisations dusting themselves down and re-stabilising and/or rebuilding. This will inevitably involve a considerable amount of change; cultures, organisational dynamics and indeed, their very reason for being, will need to take an innovative approach.
Some organisations already embrace innovation, some have reputations for doing so but in reality don’t, and some simply eschew the concept.
Only this week I spoke with someone from an organisation that fits the first type, who felt that innovation was just the latest buzzword - this is not uncommon. Nor, from what I have discovered in discussing innovation with organisations across all sectors, are these challenges:
• internal politics that discourage freedom to imagine
• a system that unintentionally rewards individuals for remaining in their comfort zone and punishes them for pursuing new ideas
• a risk averse environment
• a preoccupation with sticking to the established business model rather than exploring wider possibilities
I will be producing a series of 10 Innovation tips each Friday over the coming weeks (separate to this monthly post) and will be delighted if you could log in and add your thoughts. If you are reading this then you already know your way around our website, but if you would like a reminder for the weekly posts - drop me a line at luigi@criterionpartnership.co.uk.
To sign off on this February post however, I’ll leave you with my initial thought – Is Innovation just a buzzword to you?
Cheers… Luigi

I am amazed by the amount of discussions taking place on sites liked Linkedin about innovation - it seems there is a real buzz around this topic now. Whilst I don't think it is just a buzzword, I think there are lots of different thought processes and activites that come under the term of innovation. It really feels like an exciting time for many businesses right now and a real opportunity for people within them to shine.
