Values based recruitment saves disillusionment

Having read an interesting article today on Grapevine Online describing how the first 90 days of a new job are crucial for the employee to make their mark, it got me thinking as to how many people come out of that 90 days still disillusioned? And how many people end up this way simply because they cannot relate the to the values and culture of the organisation they are working for?
The recruitment technique we have been most successful in developing with our clients in recent times is values based assessment – which will help both the organisation and the candidate to get the right fit from the beginning. All of the online psychometrics used by a client are developed to communicate and assess the values and culture of the employer brand and role itself.
Values based online assessments focus hiring decisions around 3 key questions Can, How and Want:
- Can they do the job? - in other words do they have the abilities, potential and mental fire-power to learn the right skills, solve problems and make effective decisions
- How will they do the job? - what is their personality and style? How will they work with their colleagues, treat our customers and approach getting their work done?
- Do they want to do the job? Will they find the work satisfying, rewarding and motivating? Will they feel at home in our culture
Values based assessment works by assessing the candidate against these questions. We explore the level of fit between the potential and approach, attitudes and values of the individual against the demands of the job, the values of the business and the culture of the working environment.
Values and attitudes are measured through a personality questionnaire developed specifically to assess the fit between the candidate and the values of the business.
Values based assessment leads to more effective hiring decisions through an increased offer-acceptance rate (candidates are psychologically inclined to accept), improved job performance and better retention – new recruits enjoy the work, the culture and want to stay.
