Things to avoid when starting a new corporate blog

So we took the decision to launch a company blog on our website - anyone working for Criterion is free to contribute thoughts based loosely around our work in the area of business psychology. And of course we invite comments from anyone visiting the site who would like to be in our gang (or who wants to be critical from a safe distance).

The Criterion blog has been up and running for 4 days now and this is the inaugural post. What advice can we offer other people who might be launching their own company blog in future? Well, based on our early experiences here are our top three things to avoid when launching a new blog:

1. Do not go live without any content in place - this will put off any first time visitors and make the blog look a bit poorly planned/half arsed.

2. Do not leave the blog up and running with no posts in place for a number of days after the launch.

3. Don't try and recover from this initial stumble by writing a first post with a post-modern/self-referential angle about how not to launch a new blog.

Which of these 3 things do you think we were guilty of? (Answer below).

Anyway, future posts will be around topics such as recruitment advice, leadership development tips, what's going on in the world of business psychology as well as more general observations on the human condition.

And it will be regularly updated. Promise.

(Answer: all 3)
