What gets me out of bed in the morning...

So ... it’s now April.  I joined Criterion in October last year, and I have been asked a few times … REALLY patiently by Donna, to write a blog.

Well I’ve just been too busy.

There, I said it.

But Luigi don’t you discuss time management in your Leadership Development Programmes?

Well yes I do, but every now and then, being busy ain’t such a bad thing - and doesn’t necessarily mean bad time management.  Sometimes you just have to prioritise, sometimes you have to say ‘no’, but sometimes you can’t - nor do you want to.

For example when you join a new company (at least, when I do) I want to grab every opportunity that is coming along.  Then later I’ll pick up the pieces.  It’s the way I roll, as the kids say…

So, coming in and hitting the ground running, whilst verticalising* my learning curve - ensured that I was (a) kept active, (b) encouraged that there was certainly a role for me, and (c) learning from day one.   These are all basic and fundamental motivators for me in a workplace, and make sure I get out of bed.

The other factor is maintaining a decent work/life balance.  Whilst being away from the family for short spells to deliver training takes some getting used to again, I am lucky enough to live in the same town that our offices are located – sunny Brighton,  so when I am in the office I can be back home within 10 minutes, gazing at the Downs to the north of my house, and the sea to the south.  Also, I find that catching a glimpse of the waves on the way to work helps my attitude and mood, as do the brand spanking shiny new offices just above The Old Market theatre.

And on that theme I’ll leave another titbit about myself – I am a keen amateur actor, and whilst I haven’t been able to do anything chunky while I have been getting my feet under the Criterion table, I was in a contemporised version of the Oedipus trilogy the week before last.

The things I could write about the various Leadership Styles and schoolboys errors on display in those plays could fill a book, but for now perhaps I’ll shelve it ‘til next I blog (is that a verb?)

That’s it for now, I feel I have shared and introduced myself sufficiently – thank you for reading!

Take Care
Luigi
