Self-development process for managers
Criterion Partnership worked with a large UK based insurance group to develop a self-development process for their population of 1500 managers. We designed a bespoke self-development guide built around the objectives of the process and the values and culture of the organisation. We designed and delivered a two stage series of self-development workshops intended to motivate and support managers going through the process.
The self-development process needed to achieve these key outcomes:
- To greatly enhance the self-awareness of managers
- To encourage managers to clarify their aspirations and development goals
- To enable managers to establish a set of commitments within a personal development plan
- To act as a launch pad to development activities undertaken by the individual
In addition the process had to educate managers by communicating a number of key messages:
- The performance culture of the organisation must imbue everything an individual does at work
- The three core values of the organisation
- The introduction of a Balanced Scorecard approach and Economic Value Add as indicators of performance
These messages were communicated by the process both explicitly and implicitly through the activities the individual experienced whilst participating in the self-development process.
The self-development guide was book-ended by two events, the first designed to launch individuals into the process and secure their commitment. The second helped individuals to pull together the thinking and reflection they had undertaken and to produce a set of development commitments and a personal development plan designed to fulfil these commitments.
