Criterion publishes survey into how people now use psychometric assessment

01/02/2008

Two hundred and fifty eight HR and recruitment professionals contributed to a highly focused survey by Criterion Partnership which simply asked two questions about current and ideal world use of psychometric assessment in the recruitment process.

The two questions were:
1) At which of the following stages in your company’s recruitment process do you use psychometric assessments?
2) In an ideal world, at which stage do you personally think psychometric testing is most likely to improve the quality of new starters?

The survey showed that the most popular stages in the recruitment process for conducting such assessments remains the first and second interviews (level pegging at 44% apiece) however there is a now a strong challenger in the shape of application-stage assessment.

As test publishers we are unbiased, however we were struck by just how many people agreed that assessing at the application stage was most likely to improve the quality of new starters, yet how few were doing this. The commonest reason cited was anticipated cost.
