Verbal and Numerical and Abstract reasoning ability tests: Example questions
Psychometric tests of ability are designed to measure attributes that are relevant to effective performance at work, such as analysis, problem-solving, decision-making and ability to develop new skills.
Practice taking an online ability test
You might find it useful to complete the example questions on the next page if you have been asked to take an online test or are considering introducing testing as part of your recruitment process. Verbal reasoning and Numerical reasoning tests are widely used for recruitment because they measure abilities to work with information that is critical to most roles, such as reports, emails, financial results, data and charts. Abstract reasoning tests are also used for roles where there is an emphasis on systems thinking, inductive reasoning or working with technology, diagrams or code.
These example questions are at the graduate-professional level and measure verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning abilities. The questions are identical in format to real online tests used by organisations to recruit people. The example questions do not have a time limit and you will be presented with your score, the correct answers and some advice for how to do well at tests at the end.
